"I really believe that certain things belong specifically to Native Americans, things that are theirs and theirs alone," explains Challenger. "It's not our place to decide what part of their culture we know about or to pass judgement on their religion or beliefs. My job is to listen, to listen and learn whenever they decide to share their world with me."

The Middle Road Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the betterment of youth in the Taos Pueblo and to education that bridges traditional wisdom with modern experience. The Project aspires to maintain, preserve and celebrate the Native American culture; foster creativity and self espression through the arts; promote economic self-sufficiency and healthy life styles through programs that honor traditional values; and empower Native youth through mentoring and educational programs which help to establish a sense of identity, worth, and hope for the future.
